DAY’s design for the house on the canal belt
Capturing inspirations from the past with a contemporary twist.
As we all know, Amsterdam is a city that is rich in its history and was the home of many inspiring artists. In this canal house, in the middle of Amsterdam, DAY aimed to capture the history and many inspirations by translating it into a contemporary design for the entire renovation of the building.
The house was completely stripped and divided into two high-end apartments with a contemporary look and feel, respecting the history at the same time. The two apartments have subtle references to two famous Dutch painters being Breitner and Vermeer.
DAY was responsible for the entire interior design from architectural design to materials, interior elements to completion. Our aim was to have a seamless link running from the front to the back, with an embedded lighting plan into the design of the apartments.
We are very happy with the result and enjoyed collaborating with Trustan Bouw as contractor, Roord Binnenbouw interior builders and Annemieke Romijn for interior styling.
