Branding and signage for Utrecht University
Utrecht University is one of the oldest and largest universities in the Netherlands. DAY is happy to have worked for the Utrecht University School of Economics (U.S.E.), where we did branding and signage for the whole building. Before we started the implementation of the identity we analyzed all individual areas and spaces in the building. The way we applied branding depended heavily on the functionality and the requirements of space. The classrooms were branded more lightly while for the canteen we chose heavier and darker elements.
On each floor the color is represented on different surfaces such as walls, ceiling, stairs and doors. Also, we came up with a number of interactive graphics, represented on the chalkboard. The blank spaces were left for personal interpretation, where you could fill in your own facts and figures according to the sentences.
Finally, because U.S.E. is associated with the Scottish philosopher and economist Adam Smith, a couple of his quotes were used in the building too.
The project was completed in late February.
