What DAY learned at this year’s Material Xperience
On the 15th of March DAY checked in at the Material Xperience in Ahoy Rotterdam. The leading event for creative professionals focused on material innovation, organised by Materia. In addition to their own display of 200 newest materials from the Material collection, 140 exhibitors shared their innovations within sectors of Architecture, Interior, Fashion & Workwear, Mobility, Product, and Graphic & Packaging.
Besides the interesting material presentations, perspectives were shared during lectures. Carolini Buitenhuis, Chain innovator in Bioplastics, Biobased Packaging & Bio-economy projects at Green Serendipity, inspired us with some examples of circular concepts and packaging. One of those examples: jeans labels that are made of waste residues from recycled jeans. With such completely degradable processes, raw materials, labour and earning models stay close to the source.
DAY believes that we all can make a difference, not only with the experience of the design itself but also the effects of the materials we use in creating them. Recycle and reusing becomes more important and people become more aware. Therefore the need to innovate is growing, especially when it comes to raw materials and the new life we can create with these.
