Amsterdam is a city that is rich in its history and was the home of many inspiring artists. In this canal house, in the middle of Amsterdam, DAY aimed to capture the inspirations from the past by translating it into a contemporary design for the entire renovation of the building. The monumental building dates back to the 17th century.

The house was completely stripped and divided into high-end apartments with a contemporary look and feel, respecting the history at the same time. The apartments have subtle references to two famous Dutch painters being Breitner and Vermeer. DAY was responsible for the entire interior design from architectural design to materials, interior elements to completion. Our aim was to have a seamless link running from the front to the back, with an embedded lighting plan into the design of the apartments.

DAY is delighted to work on this historical building on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam. We are very happy with the result and enjoyed collaborating with Trustan Bouw as contractor, Roord Binnenbouw interior builders and Annemieke Romijn for interior styling. Equipped with the needs of today’s lifestyle, the apartments, including the garden, are designed in a distinctive contemporary style with a classic twist, respecting the historical details. A place to provide its users an oasis to rest and to withdraw from the hectic pace of the city.
