Stayokay is a Dutch market leader in hostels. With multiple locations Stayokay targets many different guests; their rural facilities make an attractive family destination while urban locations target the young and international sightseers. Each location has a specific characteristic. Stayokay Vondelpark is one of the largest, internationally renowned hostels in Europe, and welcomes travelers from all over the world. It is situated next to Amsterdam’s most famous and loved park in the heart of the city and targets primarily at backpackers.

There is a growing need for enriching experiences therefore Stayokay’s concept is focused on being the perfect base to discover the surroundings. Stayokay not only provides a bed to sleep on but also curates a complete experience with live acts, great food and drinks. In addition, mobile workplaces and meeting rooms make the hostel an excellent place to work.

DAY worked on Stayokay’s Vondelpark new interior design, spatial branding and indoor and outdoor signage, based on the overarching Stayokay DNA strategy project that Stayokay and DAY have completed together. DAY’s concept For Stayokay Vondelpark is inspired by the location, a park in the middle of a bustling city. There are references to the history and heritage in the graphic layers of the building, and thanks to the domestic schools’ alumni, showcases of vintage photographs, materials and machinery, will truly bring the building to life.

Stayokay Vondelpark has undergone a transformation using references to its lush green park-side location with an “Urban Jungle” concept. The designs combine nature and plants with raw, industrial and design components such as brick walls, industrial ceilings and neon letters. Combined with atmospheric lighting, bright colors and urban materials, an ‘Urban Jungle’ comes to life at Stayokay Vondelpark. Visitors can even look forward to a greenhouse in the middle of the new restaurant! Stayokay Vondelpark will be fully completed in June 2018

DAY is looking forward to continuing working with Stayokay on more locations and rolling out their new positioning.
